Electric Vehicles
Understanding Electric Vehicles
Electric vehicles (EVs) are fun to drive, easier to maintain than gas-powered vehicles, and better for the environment. But how do you know if an EV is the right choice for you? Let the experts at Paoli Ford help. Let’s break down the benefits of owning a Ford EV and discover which EV fits you best.
Benefits of Plugging In With a Ford EV
- Quick and Quiet – Enjoy fast and smooth acceleration, better handling, and a quieter ride.
- Save on Fuel and Maintenance – Charging up is cheaper than filling up at the gas station. Plus, EVs are easier and less expensive to maintain.
- Tax Incentives – Buying an EV might qualify you for state or federal incentives, rebates, and other credits.
- Battery Limited Warranty – Covers your battery and other unique EV components for 8 years/100,000 miles.1
- BlueOval™ Charge Network – Access thousands of charging locations—including Tesla Superchargers—across the largest public charging network in North America.2

Which EV is Right for Me?
Battery Electric
Fully electric cars offer the smallest environmental footprint and the biggest savings on maintenance and fuel.
Plug-In Hybrid
Plug-in hybrids have a rechargeable electric motor and a gas-powered engine to extend your driving range if needed.
Traditional Hybrid
Powered by an electric motor and gas-powered engine, Hybrids recharge as you drive. Tax credits and other benefits may not apply.
Fuel Efficient
These efficient, gas-powered vehicles get over 40 MPG while still reducing your emissions and costs.
Charging and Maintenance
Types of Charging
Charging times vary depending on what type of charger you use. Level 1 and Level 2 chargers can be used at home, while fast-charging Level 3 chargers are only found in commercial locations or public charging stations.
Level 1
Uses a standard household outlet and charges about 2-5 miles of range per hour. A good choice for plug-in hybrid vehicles, but not efficient enough for battery electric vehicles.
Level 2
Can be installed at your home by a professional electrician and charges about 10-20 miles of range per hour. A good choice for any EV when charging overnight or all day is possible.
Level 3
Available at commercial locations. Can charge about 60-80 miles of range in about 20 minutes, making it a good choice for any EV when a quick charge is needed on the go.

Battery Care
Most EV batteries will last between 100,000 and 200,000 miles before needing a replacement. With battery technology continually advancing, that number will continue to increase. If you can keep your battery between 20% and 80% charged most days and avoid extremely hot temperatures, you can expect your maintenance to be minimal.
Regular Maintenance
The owner's manual of each Ford EV vehicle contains a comprehensive maintenance schedule. Here’s a quick look at a typical maintenance schedule based on ideal conditions.
Every 10,000 Miles
- Inspect brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, brake linings, hoses, and parking brake.
- Inspect half-shaft boots.
- Inspect steering linkage, ball joints, suspension, tie-rod ends, drive shaft, and U-joints. Lubricate if equipped with grease fittings.
- Inspect the wheels and related components for abnormal noise, wear, looseness, or drag.
- Perform multi-point inspection.
- Rotate tires, inspect tire wear, and measure tread depth.
- Inspect cooling system level and strength.
At 40,000 Miles, Then Every 20,000 Miles
- Replace cabin air filter, if equipped.
- Perform regular maintenance points outlined above.
At 200,000 Miles
- Change the coolant.
- Perform regular maintenance points outlined above.
